WeatherTech TechCare Floor Mat Cleaner Review

Published
Removed molded floor liner beside two distinct unlabelled bottles, a brush and folded cloths

WeatherTech TechCare FloorLiner and FloorMat Cleaner, part 8LTC37K, is an 18 oz cleaner for the brand's intended mats and liners. Consider it for that specific job if you can remove, rinse and dry the mat. The separate Protector and two-bottle kit serve different purchase needs.

This review assesses manufacturer directions and product identities. Hot Car Care has not conducted a comparative cleaning test or measured the friction of a treated mat. The five product choices below separate WeatherTech care from permitted textile-cleaning methods.

The kit does not contain two bottles of Cleaner. If you already have the finishing product and only need the cleaning stage, check the single Cleaner listing. If you want both documented stages, compare the complete kit with the separate bottles.

Which mats does this recommendation cover?

The WeatherTech recommendation concerns the FloorLiner and FloorMat products named in the manufacturer's directions. A molded shape alone does not establish compatibility. Do not treat an unknown rubber, TPE or textile mat as the same product.

WeatherTech's care article also allows mild detergent and warm water for its stated mats when its branded Cleaner is unavailable. TechCare is a purchase option within a documented care system, not a requirement to buy a branded chemical for every mat.

For a removable textile mat, check the surface, backing and permitted wet-care method before choosing one of the textile products below. If those instructions are missing or prohibit the method, stop that route. The broader carpet-cleaning product comparison separates product roles in more detail.

Top 5 floor-mat cleaning products by material and method

This editorial order starts with the WeatherTech product under review, then moves through four textile-cleaning routes. It ranks relevance to those scenarios, not measured stain removal. The four textile products are not recommendations for WeatherTech molded liners.

01Documented task fit

WeatherTech TechCare FloorLiner and FloorMat Cleaner

8LTC37K, 18 oz. For the documented WeatherTech molded-mat process.

This is the focal choice when your mat is within WeatherTech's stated product scope and you want its named cleaning product. The 18 oz Cleaner is separate from Protector and the two-bottle kit. Its trade-off is an out-of-car rinse-and-dry process, with the brand recommending Protector afterward. Check the actual mat and exact part number before buying.

Not a blanket recommendation for other rubber, TPE or textile mats.

Why this position: The focal review is the named WeatherTech molded-mat job.

Folex Instant Carpet Spot Remover white 32 fl oz spray bottle with the current 50-year label

02Documented task fit

Folex Instant Carpet Spot Remover

32 fl oz reference bottle. For local spots on permitted, water-safe colorfast textile mats.

Folex is a different route for a compatible textile mat with a local spot. The maker's spot method uses gentle agitation and blotting with a clean absorbent cloth. Test a hidden area and let it dry before judging color change; the mat and backing must permit the method. The reference photo shows 32 fl oz, not a verified retailer bundle.

Do not transfer this spot method to WeatherTech molded liners or use it as permission to soak unknown backing.

Why this position: The next branch is local textile spotting with an explicit water-safe/colorfast test.

Chemical Guys Lightning Fast Stain Extractor SPI_191_16 16 fl oz spray bottle

03Documented task fit

Chemical Guys Lightning Fast Stain Extractor

SPI_191_16, 16 fl oz reference bottle. For a permitted fabric-cleaning and blotting process.

Lightning Fast offers a documented hand-cleaning sequence for compatible fabric: clear loose debris, apply the cleaner, agitate gently and blot. Choose it only when the textile mat permits that method. Its name does not make it fluid for any extractor tank. Verify the bottle's dilution directions; no numerical mixing recipe is supplied in this mini-review.

The fabric instructions are not a WeatherTech molded-liner recommendation; tank compatibility remains a separate check.

Why this position: The third branch is the documented permitted fabric hand process, with tank use excluded.

Adam's Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner gallon container, the hand-cleaning formula

04Documented task fit

Adam's Carpet & Upholstery Cleaner

Gallon reference container; hand-cleaning formula. For permitted textile cleaning by mist, agitation and wiping or blotting.

Adam's hand-cleaning formula uses a mist, brush-or-towel agitation and wiping or blotting. It is distinct from the brand's Extractor Shampoo. The gallon shown is the reference container; compare the selected retailer size before buying. Choose the method only after checking the textile mat's wet-care and backing instructions, then complete the required drying checks.

Do not borrow the separate Extractor Shampoo's concentration or assume permission for a machine reservoir.

Why this position: The fourth branch is a different hand-cleaning formula, kept separate from Extractor Shampoo.

Adam's Extractor Shampoo 16 oz bottle, a separate concentrated machine formula

05Documented task fit

Adam's Extractor Shampoo

16 oz reference bottle; separate concentrated formula. For an approved wet-extraction setup and compatible textile mat.

This separate low-foaming concentrate is designed for Adam's Heated Carpet Extractor. It belongs in the machine-cleaning branch only when the actual machine and textile mat permit the process. Check both manuals and the bottle's applicable method; the maker distinguishes ordinary from heavy-soil dosing. A reservoir product is not an automatic upgrade over a permitted spot treatment.

No universal machine compatibility, mixing recipe or WeatherTech molded-liner use is claimed here.

Why this position: The last branch requires an approved extraction setup and therefore adds equipment checks.

The documented WeatherTech cleaning process

For the intended WeatherTech mats, the brand specifies an out-of-car process. Follow the current bottle directions and the instructions for your actual mat.

  1. Remove the mat from the vehicle.
  2. Rinse it with fresh water.
  3. Spray TechCare Cleaner across the mat. WeatherTech recommends scrubbing with a medium-bristle brush for best results.
  4. Rinse with fresh water and let the mat dry.
  5. WeatherTech recommends following the cleaning stage with its separate FloorLiner and FloorMat Protector.

The medium-bristle instruction belongs to this WeatherTech process. It is not a brush recommendation for a carpet mat or an unknown softer material.

What changes if you add Protector?

Protector adds a separate application and drying stage.

  1. Start with a clean, dry mat.
  2. Spray lightly across it.
  3. Spread the product with a damp sponge.
  4. Allow it to dry.

WeatherTech says not to use Protector on the dashboard.

WeatherTech describes an anti-slip finish; Hot Car Care has not independently tested friction. A finished appearance still does not verify correct installation. Do not substitute tire shine or an unspecified dressing for the documented product.

Drying and refitting are separate checks

Dry molded floor liner on a rack with its retention opening visible

A clean-looking mat is not enough to complete the job. Allow the relevant cleaning and finishing stages to dry; there is no universal drying timer in the directions reviewed here. For a textile mat, the backing also needs the drying and care checks required by its maker.

WeatherTech's installation and safety document requires the correct vehicle application, side and orientation, with the applicable retention system engaged. Remove other floor mats rather than stacking them. Before starting the vehicle, check that the installed mat does not interfere with the full movement of the pedals.

If the retention system will not engage or the fit is uncertain, do not use the mat in that condition; ask the manufacturer about the proper installation. Cleaning cannot correct an unsuitable application or replace the specified attachment. See the floor-mat guide to check drying and mat refitting.

Questions about TechCare mat care

WeatherTech TechCare FloorLiner and FloorMat Protector single 18 oz spray bottle

Is Cleaner the same as Protector?

No. Cleaner is the cleaning stage; Protector is a separate finishing treatment. Compare the part numbers in the table rather than choosing by the TechCare name alone.

What comes in the kit?

WeatherTech identifies 8LTC36KPB as one 18 oz Cleaner and one 18 oz Protector, each with a sprayer. This is the manufacturer's stated package, not an unboxing by Hot Car Care.

Does this cover mats from every brand?

No. The WeatherTech process and brush instruction stay within their documented product scope. Another maker's cleaning, backing and installation requirements must be checked separately.

Can I apply Cleaner while the mat is in the car?

The reviewed WeatherTech process begins by removing the mat. The later rinsing and drying stages are part of that same process, so this review does not propose an in-car shortcut.

Does a clean-looking mat mean it is ready to refit?

No. Drying, correct fit, retention and pedal clearance remain separate checks. Complete them using the actual mat and vehicle instructions before using the vehicle.
