Meguiar’s Gold Class Car Wash Review: Is G7164 Right for You?

Published
Car-shampoo jug, plush mitt and buckets beside a parked car

Meguiar’s Gold Class G7164 is worth considering for a conventional wash when you already have rinse water, suitable wash tools, and drying supplies. Choose it to fill a shampoo gap, rather than to obtain a new wax or ceramic coating. Keep the bucket directions separate from the foam-equipment guidance.

Top 6 best car wash products by use case

These products are ordered for the stated use cases. The list is documentary: it does not report measured performance or rank the whole market. Check the exact formula, surface and received directions before choosing.

01Documented task fit

Best for a conventional shampoo gap when rinse water and wash supplies are ready

Meguiar's Gold Class Car Wash G7164, 64 oz

Gold Class G7164 fills a conventional shampoo gap when rinse water, suitable wash tools and drying supplies are available. It does not add wax or a ceramic coating. Keep bucket directions separate from foam-equipment guidance.

Why this position: First for a conventional shampoo gap with rinse water and wash supplies already available. Its bucket process stays separate from foam-equipment guidance.

Check before choosing: Keep bucket and foam-equipment guidance distinct; the shampoo does not supply wax, coating, wash media or drying towels.

02Documented task fit

Best for a conventional rinse-based maintenance wash with the original formula

Chemical Guys Mr. Pink Original CWS_402_16, 16 oz

Original Mr. Pink CWS_402_16 fits a conventional maintenance wash with rinse water, a wash mitt and drying supplies. Use the original bottle's published bucket process; Foam Party is a separate product whose wax claims do not establish this formula's role.

Why this position: Second as another conventional maintenance shampoo with the exact Original formula identified. Foam Party and neighbouring wax claims do not resolve this bottle's instructions.

Check before choosing: Original Mr. Pink and Foam Party are different formulas; match CWS_402_16 and the actual bottle's process.

Griot’s Garage Car Wash, 16 oz bottle.

03Documented task fit

Best for a conventional wash before assessing light contamination

Griot's Garage Car Wash 11102, 16 oz

Griot's identifies 11102 as its Car Wash. The existing bird-dropping guide uses this shampoo route before judging whether a remaining spot needs a different treatment.

Why this position: Third as a separately identified conventional shampoo before reassessing remaining contamination. Its washing role does not establish removal of hardened sap or etching.

Check before choosing: A shampoo choice is not proof of removal of hardened sap or etched paint; use the actual dilution, rinsing and finish-care instructions.

04Documented task fit

Best for a conventional rinse-based maintenance wash when fragrance is acceptable

Adam's Car Wash Shampoo, 16 oz

Adam's lists a 16 oz Car Wash Shampoo and describes a pH-neutral maintenance-wash formula. The page identifies a blue color and wildberry fragrance, useful distinctions when choosing a shampoo rather than a rinseless product or protection step.

Why this position: Fourth for the conventional-wash branch when the named wildberry fragrance is acceptable. The maker's pH-neutral description is not universal vehicle permission.

Check before choosing: The maker's broad protection and sunlight claims are not universal vehicle permission or a scratch-free result. Follow the actual wash setup, bottle directions and finish-care requirements; do not borrow ONR's no-final-rinse workflow.

05Documented task fit

Best for a wash-and-rinse shampoo where the coating's care rules permit it

CARPRO Reset Car Wash Shampoo

Reset serves wash-and-rinse cleaning where the existing coating's care instructions permit it. Provide the required water and clean wash tools. It does not apply a coating or replace a separately identified contaminant-removal or protection task.

Why this position: Fifth for a coating-maintenance wash only where the existing finish permits this shampoo. The organic-wax and polymer-sealant warning narrows that fit.

Check before choosing: Check the US warning about organic waxes and polymer sealants; Reset is cleaning, not a new ceramic coating.

Optimum No Rinse Version 6, 32 oz bottle. Separate package size; not three units.

06Documented task fit

Best for a water-and-towel wash routine without a final hose rinse

Optimum No Rinse Wash & Shine Version 6

No Rinse Wash & Shine Version 6 fits routine washing with water, clean wash media and drying towels but no final hose rinse. Match Wash & Shine rather than Wash & Wax or a kit with a separate wax. Heavy abrasive soil can require pre-cleaning at suitable facilities.

Why this position: Sixth as the distinct Version 6 rinseless route without a final hose rinse. It is not ranked as a conventional shampoo substitute for every soil level; water, clean media and an abrasive-soil plan are still required.

Check before choosing: Match Wash & Shine Version 6 rather than Wash & Wax; abrasive soil can require a different pre-cleaning plan.

What does G7164 cover?

Car-shampoo bottle, wash mitt and bucket in a bright wash bay
A closed plain car-shampoo bottle beside a clean wash mitt, wash bucket and resting rinse nozzle in a bright wash bay. Single bottle composition, no brand or protective-coating performance claim.

The US manufacturer identifies G7164 as the 64-oz Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo & Conditioner. The brand also sells other Gold Class products; a wax bearing that name does not fill the same wash step. Meguiar’s describes this shampoo as cleaning paint while preserving existing wax, sealant, or coating protection. That is a manufacturer statement, rather than a Hot Car Care durability measurement. Read the US G7164 description

Bucket, foam gun, or foam cannon?

One closed translucent bottle of pink car-shampoo liquid, a black wash bucket and a resting foam cannon on a clean studio bench, bright wash bay background. No label, spray or foam performance demonstration.

You can choose this bottle for a bucket routine alone. Foam equipment adds another setup decision; the published foam ratio does not tell you how to fill a wash bucket.

The documented bucket sequence

The older Meguiar’s technical bulletin explicitly includes G7164. It gives this sequence; use the current bottle’s directions if they differ:

  1. Work with a cool vehicle in shade and rinse its surface with water.
  2. Measure 1 oz of shampoo per gallon of water into the wash bucket.
  3. Apply the mixture with a clean sponge or wash mitt permitted for the finish.
  4. Rinse thoroughly from the top downward.
  5. Promptly remove the remaining water with a suitable drying towel.

Measure the water actually used, rather than treating the bucket’s maximum capacity as its contents. The bulletin’s capful alternative is not used here because bottle caps can differ. Read Meguiar’s bucket-method bulletin

Will it fit your existing protection?

Paint, film, textured trim and clear plastic samples beside a plain bottle and applicator.
Separate exterior material samples show the difference between paint, protective film, textured trim and clear plastic before choosing a product.

Identify the finish before choosing a maintenance shampoo. Check the installed coating’s permitted wash products and first-wash timing; a broad preservation claim cannot settle those requirements. This review does not establish approval for every matte finish, wrap, or newly applied coating.

If the question concerns a different coating-care shampoo, check CARPRO Reset’s protection-related limits. Identify the car’s protection even when comparing a different brand.

Choose the bottle or skip the purchase

A separate bottle makes sense when suitable tools are already available and shampoo is the missing supply. If you need several tools, compare actual kit contents with those gaps first. Buying a larger bundle can also duplicate usable items.

For another conventional-shampoo option, read the original Mr. Pink review. It separates the CWS_402 formula from Foam Party; compare the complete rinse routine, rather than ranking bottles by foam appearance.

If rinse water is unavailable, choose a different documented process: the rinseless setup guide explains the equipment and soil limits, and the ONR review covers its exact formula. Gold Class’s bucket method does not become rinseless by omitting its rinse step.

Keep a suitable shampoo you already own when it satisfies the same routine. For the drying stage, compare drying towels by manageable size and construction before adding another pack. No foam cannon is needed merely to assemble the documented bucket setup.

Questions before ordering

A single trigger bottle and an open car-care kit sit separately beside a microfiber towel and blank checklist card.

Is Gold Class shampoo the same as Gold Class wax?

No. Match the complete product name and G7164, not just the range name. Cleaning and applying a separate protection product are different purchases.

Can I use 5:1 in my bucket?

The US page connects that number to foam equipment. Use the bucket directions instead; this review does not infer which component is the “5” in a foam mixture.

Does conditioner replace a separate protection treatment?

Do not use the word “conditioner” as evidence that a new wax or coating has been applied. Decide whether added protection is needed as a separate task.

What should I check when the car is already coated?

Check the installed coating’s permitted wash products and first-wash timing. The manufacturer’s general preservation statement is not approval for your exact coating.

Does this review cover every bottle size?

The buying card targets G7164, 64 oz. A different quantity, kit, or similarly named product needs its own match; no cost-per-wash comparison is established.

Hot Car Care compared the US product description with Meguiar’s older technical bulletin, reproduced by an automotive-product distributor.
